WHY PALM KERNEL SHELLS?

The efficient energy source of the future

Naturally Pelletized

PKS can be immediately used as a direct replacement or complement less environmentally friendly fuel sources like coal, especially in circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boilers.

Environmentally Friendly

When used as a replacement or complement to fossil fuels, PKS reduces pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions.

Proven Source of Fuel

PKS is being used as a replacement and complementary biofuel source in many power plants all over the world.

Easily Transportable

Kernel Shells are fibrous material and can be easily handled in bulk before use. Large and small(but mostly uniform size) shell fractions are mixed with dust-like fractions and small fibres

DERIVING PALM KERNEL SHELLS

Palm Kernel Shells ( or PKS ) is the by-product of Palm Oil Industry. They are shell fractions left after the palm seed has been removed from the crushing of Palm Nut at the Palm Oil Mill.

PKS from older palm plantation, is typically derived from the Dura fruit form, has thick lignified shell surrounding the kernel. Dura is more prevalent in plantations in Sumatra, Indonesia

Contrast this against Tenera, which has a much thinner shell. Tenera is mostly found in newer plantations in Malaysia and Kalimantan, Indonesia. Tenera is grown and found in newer plantations due to its higher ‘flesh’ and kernel content, where CPO Is derived from the flesh and palm kernel from the kernel.
